Espedalen has a stabile inland weather, but like all places in the mountain it can be very shifting. It has moderate amounts of precipitation throughout the year. Protected by Jotunheimen in the west, we rarely get the dramatic weather that sometimes occurs in the west.
Summertime can vary from very warm and dry, and cold with rain. The birch trees bud in the beginning of June, and remains green and beautiful until the beginning of September when the colours of autumn take over.
At the end of September the marvel of colours is usually over, and the leaves fall. This varies from year to year depending on temperatures and rain.
The first snow is usually seen in October, but normally the snow doesn’t come to stay until November. When the snow first has decided to stay, we have ski tracks all winter and way into April, and sometimes even into the beginning of May!
The winter it is usually a few degrees milder up in the mountains than down in the valley, and even on the coldest days we recommend going up into the mountain unless it is very windy.
Wind cools down a lot. When storm in the mountain comes in over the country from the west, it seldom reaches us at Dalseter. On the other hand, we have to be prepared for bad weather coming on very quickly when the wind comes from the north.
No matter what time of year you come to the mountain, you should always bring extra clothes. The wind up here is fresher and cooler then down in the low country.
-With proper clothes we enjoy all types of weather!
