The Per Gynt farm road starts at Vinstra, by Sødorp. The trip over the east side of the mountains towards Kvam in Gudbrandsdalen offers most of the beautiful sights you might find in the higher parts of Norway.
After just 2,5km you pass the Per Gynt farm, Hågå, where the rumours say that Henrik Ibsens inspiration for his famous play - the real Peer Gynt - lived. The farm with its 18 old houses is owned privately, and now it is open for finer dining and bed&breakfast on demand.
By the tollgate a few miles further up one can buy fishing cards needed to fish in rivers and water along the way. The highest point you find at Krøkla, 1109 m.a.sl, with a great view of both Rondane and Jotunheimen. “Mjølbøla” right next to the road on the highest point is always covered with snow.
Many idyllic mountain farms along this road is still used every summer.By Toksesetra there is a restored waterwheel working. By Kvamsnyseter you can see the lovely Jørafall. Rondablikk hotel boasts a great view towards the mountains of Rondane and the lake Furusjøen. We recommend the short turn off to Hovde. There is a scenic path all around the lake, which is also serviced by a ferry.
From Rondablikk you drive the green Veikledale down to Kvam, and from here you can choose whether to cross the bridge and use the back roads back to Vinstra, or the E6 to Vinstra and there after Rv255 to Skåbu and Espedalen.
