Espedalen - " Our friendly wilderness "

Utsikt fra Veslegruva

The valley of Espedalen is centrally situated on the east side of our country, with a stabil inn land climate summer and winter through.

Espedalen stretches north from Gausdal west, toward Vinstradalen through three districts: Gausdal, Sør-Fron and Nord-Fron. In the bottom of the valley lies the 12 km long lake ‘Espedalsvatnet’ that is linked with next lake, the 4 km long ‘Breidsjøen’ north of ‘Verket’.

The lower land around the lakes is dominated by spruce forest. Somewhat back in time pine grew here, but spruce found its way through and the pine had to give way. Above the spruce forest is the birch belt – and above this the mountain flora has made its claim, with juniper, vier and other kind of hardy shrubs.

Espedalen is well protected by high, majestic mountains, making it warm and friendly both winter and summer. Only to the northwest the valley is open to wind and weather.
