Plant life in Espedalen

Røsslyng.Blåkoll.

The flora in Espedalen is varied – here in this mountains on 800 – 1517 m.a.sl you will find almost all moutain plants that exist in Norway. The mountain flora is exciting and wonderful. The most beautiful flowers burst up right after the snow has left us and flower for a few hectical summer weeks.

Many mountain wanderers may pass right by many of these flowers on their walks without even noticing them all that much. We encourage everyone that wanders in the wilderness to look down and notice all the beautiful plants that is there. Take with you a small book on mountain flora, it gives an edge to the walk to learn how to recognize the plants and even their names.

Røsslyng(Heather), Mogop(Spring pasque flower), Skogstorkenebb(Wood Cranesbill), Geiterams (Rosebay Willow herb) and Tyrihjelm (Wolfs-bane) you probably have heard of.
What about Bakkesøte (Field gentian), Fjelløyentrøst (Mountain Eyebright), Ryplyng(Alpine bearberry) and Tysbast (Mezereon)?
All these and more you can find here in Espedalen.
