There are many remains of old pit traps in Espedalen, telling a story of a rich wildlife that also in our days sets it mark on the valley.

If you are lucky you may see moose, fox, weasel, hare, wood grouse (Capercaillie) and falcon.

Hunting and fishing has traditionally been one of the most important ways to make a living for the inhabitants of the valley. There are many old pit traps up in the mountain. These were dug so that they were wider in the bottom. That way it was impossible for the animal to get back up if it had fallen in.

There is a pit trap in Espedalen that is 6 meter on each side and 3 meter deep. Higher up in the mountains there are several others measuring about 1.5 meter square.
